Stroke Center at Jeanes Hospital Awarded Certification from The Joint Commission

(Philadelphia, PA) – Jeanes Hospital has earned the Gold Seal of Approval™ from The Joint Commission for Primary Stroke Centers – which signifies that the services provided by Jeanes’ Stroke Center have the critical elements necessary to improve outcomes for stroke patients.

“We are honored and proud to be certified by The Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center,” said Linda Grass, President & CEO of Jeanes Hospital.   “This prestigious designation acknowledges the ability of our Stroke Center team to meet or exceed performance measures that improve outcomes for stroke patients.”

The Joint Commission’s Primary Stroke Center Certification is based on the recommendations for stroke centers published by the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association’s statements/guidelines for stroke care.   For example, certified stroke centers must demonstrate their ability to deploy rapid-response stroke treatment teams; use comprehensive, written stroke-care protocols; and maintain an integrated system for managing stroke patients.

The Stroke Center at Jeanes treats about 175 to 200 patients each year.  Led by neurologist Marcia Halpern, MD, it offers comprehensive, state-of-the-art care for people who have had a stroke, or brain attack.  “We have built a strong multidisciplinary team that can efficiently diagnose and treat patients who have experienced a stroke – anything from a mild ischemic event to a major brain attack,” said Halpern. “By effectively implementing clinical practice guidelines, we are able to provide immediate treatment, as well as extensive rehabilitation care.”

Last year, the Stroke Center at Jeanes Hospital earned a Silver Award from the American Stroke Association for having met, for 24 consecutive months, all performance measures associated with improving outcomes for stroke patients.
