Temple University Hospital, the sponsoring institution, is located in an urban setting in North Philadelphia on the health sciences campus of Temple University. The hospital is a new 500-bed acute care facility which provides outstanding patient care accommodations as well as an excellent working environment. The hospital is recognized as one of the leading surgical centers of Philadelphia with its many divisions pushing the forefront of patient care and research.
Temple has the most active Trauma Center in the city receiving patients not only from immediate area, but also from adjacent cities by helicopter. The Emergency Room is equipped to handle all surgical emergencies, permitting complete stabilization of the patient prior to transport to the Operating Room.
Surgical services serve both primary and tertiary care roles. Surgical excellence in the care of these patients is enhanced by close working relationships with non-surgical services to permit a broad multidisciplinary approach. The availability of sophisticated diagnostic testing, including magnetic resonance imaging, complete nuclear medicine facilities and strong sections of Medicine, Oncology and Radiation therapy, blend to provide a strong learning experience in the diagnosis and treatment of the spectrum of surgical problems.
